Reading Eaves of Destruction it is so easy to see why this has become a Hallmark Channel success. Katie Carlisle has a wonderful series many of you will be familiar with, if not she writes the lovely cozy series called the Fixer-Upper Mysteries. This is book 5 in such an endearing cozy mystery! Main character Shannon is a craftsman builder and head of her family company. She and her company are sought after for their dedication and work ethic. Shannon has a wonderful personality and a great love [...]

Shannon and her team have been called in by various homeowners to spruce up their houses before the annual Home and Garden competition, with one of them Shannon and one of her Foremen (Wade) are seriously wondering about actually turning down the work, Petsy Jorgenssen is snooty, short tempered and quite frankly rude! But with a new female carpenter/wood carver eager to have a go at repairing the damage to some walls they stick with it.  It would help if the local incompetent building Inspecto [...]

EAVES OF DESTRUCTION is the fifth book in the Fixer-Upper series by Kate Carlisle. I’m really enjoying this series. Shannon Hammer is such a wonderful character. I love that although she is technically an amateur sleuth, she isn’t one of those who does stupid things in order for the story to work out. All of her actions are very organic and rational. In this book, there’s a lot of tension between homeowners. Shannon gets a job that involves working with a very rude client. She is also looki [...]

Shannon has been asked to do work on a home that will be entered into the local Victorian Home and Garden Tour, the only problem is the home owner is rude and obnoxious. With all the work that needs to be done on other houses for the tour Shannon hires a young woman who enjoys working with wood and puts her to work immediately. When the local building inspector turns up dead everyone can understand why, not only is he corrupt but he was always showing up at unexpected times and making trouble. S [...]

EAVES OF DESTRUCTION by Kate Carlisle is the fifth book in the Fixer-Upper Mystery series, but I’m embarrassed to say, the first one I’ve read. Now mind you, I have the first three books in the series sitting in my to-read stack and while I had good intentions of getting caught up this past summer, life got in the way. When Kate mentioned that she had developed a recipe to go with the book, I jumped at the chance to share it and read EAVES OF DESTRUCTION for my blog post. Based on her Biblio [...]

I've been hooked on this series from the first bookeach one since has just gotten better and better. I especially enjoy Shannon and her tenacity, in both her work and getting to the bottom of the current mystery she becomes immersed ine definitely is a mystery magnet. The author has crafted characters who are so very real, their personalities tailored specifically to the part they play in each story, making them believable and multidimensional. Reoccurring characters are a joy to see as they bri [...]

i don't know how I missed the first four books in this series, Fixer-Upper Mystery Series but I will be reading them soon. I didn't have any problems at all picking up the cast of characters or the small town dynamics. A great murder mystery with a whole group of suspects to sort through. Shannon is a construction contractor who is busy preparing for Victorian Home and Garden Festival where the competition is cut throat and a contestant is willing to murder to win. Enjoyed this book and couldn't [...]

A lot going on as usual in this mystery book about building and renovating. The location is wealthy California where Victorian-era homes are being judged for a contest with prestige attached. Sharon Hammer runs a renovation firm but every move is slowed down by the officious building inspector. Since he's the main disliked person in the tale it's not giving much away to say he ends up dead on one of the many work sites in town. Sometimes to keep tension in a series you need to keep the strong an [...]

This is the fifth book in this series and I look forward to each new release. Kate Carlisle crafts such wonderful stories with quaint settings, wonderful characters and mysteries that keep her readers on their toes. I look forward to each new trip back to Lighthouse Cove to catch up with Shannon and the rest of the characters to see what the author has in store form them. From the very first book I just fell in love with Shannon Hammer. I think part of it is because she is so different from me in [...]

This is an excellent book. It's well written and keeps ones attention. Everytime i thought the mystery was about to be exposed it would get more complex and kept me guessing. There were twists I just didn't see coming. I highly suggest this book.

Many homeowners are hiring Hammer Construction to fix up their residences before the Lighthouse Cove Victorian Home and Garden Tour. Everyone wants to win Best in Show which comes with a large cash prize and this year they have a famous mystery author as the judge. Petsy Jorgensen is Shannon’s most difficult client and matte [...]

I have long been a fan of this author, but this mystery raises the bar for the future - the best of this series. It is great to visit Lighthouse Cove and the delightful folks who live there. Shannon Hammer, her boyfriend and well-known mystery writer Mac, work together to solve a real poser of a mystery.Shannon now manages Hammer Construction, her father's company. She especially loves working on Victorian homes - both the originals and the contemporary ones her father built. With an upcoming ho [...]

Eaves Of DestructionByKate CarlisleWhat it's all aboutSowe have Shannon Hammerowner of a local construction companyd someone who just happens to have a reputation for finding murdered people. In this book she just happens to be at a house where a really awful irritating dishonest building inspector is found dead in an orangerya greenhouse. He has a well made chisel stuck in his tummy! Yikes! Fortunately Shannon is not a suspect but some of the people she is associated with could be! Andere are l [...]

I look forward to each new book in this series. I think this is my favorite one so far. I received an arc of the book yesterday and already finished it, I couldn't put it down. I really like the relationship that Shannon has with her workers. I enjoy revisiting the characters and I feel like you learn more about each one with each new book. The mystery is well plotted and every time I thought I knew who killed the inspector, a red herring was thrown and I was back to guessing who it was. I love [...]

Oops, this is the cozy house renovation series I DON'T like! Always a risk when swimming in the murky waters of cozy house renovation series.

Review coming soon.

It was an easy read. It was somewhat suspenseful an enjoyable. This is the first Fixer-Upper Mystery I have read and I was interested enough to read another.

So I broke my rule with this one and grabbed it anyway because I really wanted to try one and I have seen the movies on Hallmark several times. ;) So I figured besides a few changes that I might be able to make it through okay without having read book one. I was right things went pretty good. There are some differences but I felt that the main characters flow pretty much the same on paper and in the shows. In this one it's about time for the Home and Garden tour and everyone seems to want to have [...]

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher of this book for the ARC copy. In exchange, I am giving an honest review of this book.Kate Carlisle's books are great mysteries for a easy afternoon. Shannon Hammer is back again with another mystery in her lap. Shannon get swept up in a mystery of the local town building inspector's murder. After the deceased is found on one of her job sites, Shannon finds that the inspector was not only corrupt, but had created a great amount of enemies. This series is [...]

As one of Kate's Raters, I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. In this fifth installment of Carlisle's Fixer-Upper cozy mystery series, Shannon and her crew have their hands full. Lighthouse Cove is gearing up for the annual Victorian Home and Garden Tour. Homeowners, vying for the cash prize and prestige, are scrambling to outshine the competition. Some are more desperate than others.Fortunately, for Shannon, a few new additions to her crew make for a mor [...]

In this book, we follow Shannon as she and her crews help get homes ready for the upcoming Home and Garden Tour that can net one home owner $10,000.00. We meet some new characters, the Jorgensens, the Derry's, and others. We find Shannon hiring a new woodworker, Amanda, and her past to Lighthouse Cove. Who is Amanda? Where does she come from? When Matthew Jorgensen sees her, he makes a remark and then shows her a painting hanging in his home one day. What do Amanda and Shannon decide to do? When [...]

I am a fan of Kate Carlisle, and love her Bibliophile mysteries. When I read the first in this series, A High End Finish, I went into it with an open mind. Reading the Fixer Upper Mysteries is a breath of fresh air. I enjoy cozies, and this is one unlike any I have encountered before. The latest in the series was excellent. Shannon is one of my favorite heroines. She is a contractor by trade and works on old Victorian houses in the picturesque town she lives in called Lighthouse Cove in Californ [...]

I have to say that Kate Carlisle’s Fixer Upper Mysteries keep getting better and better. In Eaves of Destruction Shannon is preparing to fix up one of the classic Victorian houses to get it ready for the annual Home and Garden Tour. Petty Jorgensen will do anything to win Best in Show, but would she even stoop to murder? The thing I love most about Shannon Hammer is that she is strong and resilient. Even though she runs Hammer Construction, She believes in the concept of team work and is not a [...]

Princess Fuzzypants here:Boy, am I glad our renovations last year were nothing like the ones in this book. Despite the upheaval, we didn’t have dead bodies and deep intrigue and all sorts of shenanigans. But then we don’t live in a Victorian mansion and compared to the characters in the book, we are really boring.Shannon, Mac and all her various friends, workers, clients and assorted people have some fascinating backstories. When Shannon hires Amanda, a very talented carpenter, she has no id [...]
