Seam Busters offers a sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, and sometimes downright difficult look at blue collar, working class, small town America. Hood's quirky cast of characters keeps readers guessing as some relationships are strengthened by surprising twists and turns while other relationships hit dead ends. This reality, while occasionally frustrating, mimics the reality of relationships built under challenging circumstances. Likewise, the plot twists near the end of the story are grippin [...]
First Reads Winner.I wanted to read this book because my mom worked this exact job for over 12 years before the sewing factory shut down. This was a poignant story, making you laugh and cry along with the characters.
First reads winnerI really loved this little book. It was a perfect slice of life. The story mostly follows a character named Irene during a period of several months. You get to know her co-workers through her eyes and live her memories as she recounts them. The story reminded me of places I used to work and the friendships I made with co-workers, also reminded me of the strict rules we had to follow as well. The story has an overall great tone, like irene is already your friend and we are getti [...]
I really enjoyed this story! It is about life, love and relationships in a small town dealing with economic hardship. It's about relationships, rekindling existing ones and forging new ones. There is humor, sadness, struggle and everything in between. Mary writes very descriptively, and I felt as if I was there.
