I received this for review, and found I could not put it down until I discovered how Jayke's story turned out.Jayke lives with his foster parents, the Millers. The Buried Covenant is a great read! I didn't know what to expect as I began reading it, but by the end I was hooked and ready for the next installment least I am hoping for another one.I have been reading paranormal books for a while and this book was a refreshing step away. I wouldn't say it is not paranormal b/c of some of the factors in it, but a Christian paranormal would fit it. I would say it fits in with the likes of Frank E. Peretti. And, I truly loved his books. Back to The Buried Cove [...]
I really enjoyed this novel. It was about a young man trying to find his identity and place in the world. The novel captures you at the beginning. You just have to find out what is going to happen!!! Who is this kid? Where does he come from? The book has a little of everything; Suspense, mystery, comedy, villians, hero's etc!! This was a really good book. I can't wait for the next one. This has to be a new series!! I am a fan of Mr. Shawn Keenan!!!!
25 Stars! How I loved this novel! I was enraptured with the lyricism from the first page, then captivated by the characterizations. The author has a special perspective, a divergent point of view, such that we see deeper into his characters than is often the case-this type of deeper characterization is found only in the best YA books-and I just kept wishing the story could go on and on and on, neverending!Jayke Wolff, the protagonist, hero, and narrator, is the kind of individual we all ought to [...]
The Buried Covenant was such a great read. It is one of those books that you just can't put down. The first half of the book builds slowly but the second half builds the story and the characters in such a way the you are completely hooked! I definitely recommend this book and hope there will be a second book to follow.
Wow! This was a completely amazing book! I was intrigued by the mystery surrounding the main character, Jayke Wolff, through the first part of the book. Then finding out the truth about his particular abilities and memory loss was simply amazing! This book is very different from any other paranormal book I've read - a completely unique story! I can't wait to find out what happens next!
I was contacted by the author regarding this book. It was available for free the month of June on GoodReads and I was more than happy to read/review it! We first meet Jayke, who was awakened from a coma 7 years ago and has no knowledge of his life prior to waking up. Having been home schooled, he realizes that his social skills are severely lacking and makes the decision to attend public school. Not only does he have to deal with the stresses of high school, but a creepy "cult" that calls themse [...]
The Buried Covenant by Shawn Keenan is very unique, it had me hooked from begining to end.Jayke Wolff is a foster kid, he lives with his foster parents the Millers. He only remembers the last 7 years of his life, before then it's a total blank he woke up from a coma at the age of 10. He's been homeschooled for as long as he can remember, and decides he wants to attend school and have some normalcy in his life.Upon arrival at school things are strange, from falling and hitting his head on the cur [...]
I am so glad I gave this book a chance. It was such an unexpectedly fun read. Very different from what I normally read, while it had some paranormal elements to it, I wouldn't exactly classify it as paranormal. The book starts off a little slow, but that is to be expected since the author needed to build the world and characters around us to help us understand them later on. Even though it was a little slow going at first, the characters and mystery behind Jayke drew you in and made it really har [...]
I really enjoyed this book. I was completely hooked on the story line. It was hard to put it down since I was so engrossed in Jayke's ordeal and wanted to see how he handled himself as the story unfolded. I appreciated Jayke's growth throughout the story. I also really enjoyed the supporting characters Ben and Tina. They were really likeable and written in a true teenage voice. Looking forward to a sequel.
I got sucked into the story and completely engrossed. Easy flow and a decent line of suspense that builds up as you go. Great ending and nice lead way for a second book. Love the characters! :) I'll be keeping an eye out for the next part.
I thought The Buried Covenant was a really good book. I couldn't put it down til I was done. I really enjoyed the Main character Jayke Wolffe. You wanted to know what his character is and what his purpose was. The ending made you wanting for more.
You would think only being able to remember the last 7 years of your life would be enough to try and deal with. Well, Jayke Wolff has plenty more on his plate. This is not the typical teenager coming of age story, there is so much more contained in The Buried Covenant and this aspect is what appealed to me. Keenan managed to give Jayke’s story a feeling of realness, even if super powers are a thing of fiction. Jayke is a foster child ready to go out into the real world and go to school after p [...]
‘The Buried Covenant’ was definitely an interesting read. I have to admit it had everything from an intriguing plot line to a marvellous execution of it. The story revolves around a young boy, Jaike Wolffe (I hope I got the spellings right) who suffered a ‘terrible accident’, before slipping into a comma. He was told his parents died in that ‘accident’ and that he had miraculously survived, only to have retained nothing from his past memories. He moved from foster home to foster home [...]
When you start reading this book it's much like meeting someone for the first time. In a very good way, you just aren't sure where this relationship is going. Will the plot focus on the foster care feelings because the main character is a foster kid or will it focus on something else? Reading along changes your perspective in exactly the way it would be altered if you were sitting and having a conversation with someone. Your opinion shifts into other realms. Is this going to be a sci-fi thing or [...]
I won this book from Librarything in exchange for an honest review.Overall, I thought this book was well written, fast paced, with characters that were interesting and complex. In particular, I loved the story of the protagonist Jayke, who slowly discovers his past by meeting a cast of interesting mentors and characters (and old mentors who now reveal more of what they know!). Not to mention that this all involves a fascinating back story that I will not reveal, but that I thought was creative a [...]
The Buried Convenant is unique and entertaining. It started off a little slow for me but when you get about half way through it really picks up and things start coming together. I didn't want to put it down it was so good. I wasn't sure how to classify this. It's somewhere between a sci-fi and paranormal. We meet Jayke Wolff who has been in a coma for the past seven years. He has no memory of his life before that. When he starts school he has no idea what he is in for. He makes some new friends [...]
I won this book in a giveaway and didn't regret reading it. It had one little drawback and I'll get to that further down. Overall, the author managed to draw me into the story right form the beginning. The characters, especially the bad-girl, are well defined and believable, the plot is twisty enough to be interesting and not too twisty to be confusing. The writing is good, partly even poetic, but it's never obtrusive. The drawback I mentioned above (spoiler alert) is the definition of the main c [...]
The book starts out pretty slow, but does get better later. It starts out pretty much like most young adult novels do, focusing on things like relationships and friendships. We meet a few ominous characters one being Amber, who we later find out goes by a different name, and a different character all together. Jayke's got a secret past even he doesn't know about until later in the book, and a group called the Aduro really wants to stop him, because he's the key of the future. In this book it see [...]
