Hah! This is good! No more attempted romance-y crap! Back to the real action and grit. This is what I've been waiting for. **EDIT** Now that I've finished itCOULD IT GET ANY MORE AMAZING?! THIS is the James Patterson I know and love, with all his plot twists and awesome charactesr.
So this book it's just bad. Please don't get worked up over my opinion. I liked the first book. Really, I did. But in general, Mr. P's writing seems like it's gone down the tube. The Max Ride books after the third one, Daniel X, and now Witch and Wizard.I'm not going to annoy you with a boring summary, you should know it by now. Issue 1: dialogue and writing. The dialogue is stiff, like they are bad actors with bad scripts with a bad director in a bad movie. Because that is how JP writes - like [...]
The original book got 4 stars from me, but this sequel only gets 2. First of all, why am I getting an ARC to a James Patterson sequel? Perhaps it's not selling as well as his other series? This book is really Witch & Wizard all over again: there's not that much changed in the way of plot, characterization or, well, anything (unlike, say, the Hunger Games trilogy, which does have some set pieces but you do see character growth and a story arc). It's definitely out of the Patterson factory and [...]
This one was better than the first. I wonder if the next one is even better than this and obviously the first. A series that starts off bad only to get betterbetter by every book? That would be interesting. Wisty is getting to be a better character in this one. Her brother Whit is still annoying me.
I am confused about this series. I have looked at websites and read other reviews, and so far the feedback seems to be rather positive. I guess there are just some books you don’t like. It’s just unusual, because I’m usually in sync with other people, but this time I can’t be further away. I really, really do not like these books – this book specifically. I think with Witch and Wizard, it was new and somewhat enjoyable. I was hoping the story would have moved on from the last book. Rea [...]
I thought that this book was just as good if not better than the first book in the series. The book was easy to comprehend and continued to keep me interested all throughout the book.I do think that you should read the first book of the series before you read this one because it will make a lot more sense to you and catch you up on what is going on. My favorite character in this book is Whit because even though he is strong and buff he still can be emotional and help with problems. He wants to d [...]
I didn't read the first book in the series, so that's undoubtedly a big part of why I found it hard to care about the characters. But I just found them to be somewhat flat, their voices weren't all that unique (which I think is critically important if you're going to shift first-person perspective between characters), and the writing felt rushed. There were definitely some good action sequences, but that was mostly what this book was: a series of action sequences. I would have liked to have some [...]
I found the second book of this series to be as engrossing as the first book. I almost completed the whole book in one day, finishing the last 12% the following night. Overall, I found that the characters remained true to their portrayal, while also growing through all the hardships and chaos that has consumed their lives. I also truly love how this book continues to realize that it is a book during the whole story telling process. During some parts where the reader is "ridiculed" (for lack of a [...]
I was originally going to whine about the grievous misuse of the English language, particularly in the simile and metaphor department, as my claim was there were on average 3 horrid, stretched out similes or metaphors per a page. But my friends have proved me wrong and not wanting to use use a hyperbole (which was also over used), I stand corrected. There is on average only one rancid, overused, or stretched out simile/metaphor per a page. Patterson saves up all his big boy words for these nails [...]
Wisteria and Whitford Allgood are back in the second book in a dystopian series where the world has been taken over by the New Order, and their magical skills would seem to be the only hope of the Resistance. While the first book seemed to be nothing more than a prologue to explain the world in which the series is set, The Gift does a good job of being presenting an interesting story that is a blend of science fiction and fantasy. The One Who Is The One seems to have recognized the gift of great [...]
I remember the first in the series wasn't that great, but it was an easy read. I don't remember it being quite this bad. First off, I feel like this series is trying to capitalize on both the supernatural and dystopian YA trends. Which would be fine, if it did a good job at either one. We're told to believe this new world has been established relatively recently, with people being openly zealous 1984 style, but I honestly don't remember any justification given for people to turn around that quic [...]
Not as good as the first one. Ending is left open for part 3 The Fire.
1.5 stars. The first book was a lot better than this one. I didn't like the writing in this book at all and the plot of this book slowly downward spiraled into eternal darkness.
can't finish, even if it means having to explain to the supervisor who lent it to me exactly why i didn't like it. good lord, what a trainwreck.
the ending was so suspenseful and good I knew they weren't going to die but I still felt like they were.
I absolutely loved Whit in this book. I'm always thoroughly amused by the banned lists in the back of the book, too! It was a great read, very fast-paced and thrilling. I can't wait for the next one!
I enjoyed this book much more, even though I got very confused. more could've been done to show that the end of the first book wasn't before the second book but an ongoing point that the two books lead to. It was really good. I'm confused about Byron and Celia and the end scene but I have the 3rd book so there's no time to waste!
A solid read for younger readers with lots of action and character development. It picks up right where the previous volume left off and it doesn't pause until the end. Be warned that this is not a case of being a able to pick up random volumes and being able to enjoy. You will be completely lost if you read this before volume 1.
Tried to continue on with this series but alas it is a no go for me.
This was a really easy, yet fun read:) If you're a fan of The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, and/or Harry Potter, this is the series for you!!
This book was exciting yet terrifying, wanting you to keep reading, no breaks. This book tells a story about a brother and a sister who were caught by The One who is The One. They are trapped in a facility center, until they escape. They escape to go the the Freeland and find their parents. In the first book they were taken away from their parents, they never knew that they were wicthes and wizards. Once Wisty and Wist Allgood fine their freinds in the mainland, they have missions to complete. T [...]
The Witch & Wizard was good. I'll give it that. It wasn't the best book it had ever read, but it was fresh, funny, fast and fun. It was written in the same tone that the Maximum Ride series was written in, with a twist of magic. If there hadn't been the sequel, I would have been happy. But there was, and I'm not. I've read the more recent Maximum Ride reviews, so I'm sure there are people who agree with me when I say the plot has steadily gotten worse, with people changing sides all the time [...]
Whit and Wisty Allgood are still on the run from the New Order, which has banned all art, music and writing from the world, and is attempting to reeducate all of the children in various awful ways. Whit sees Wisty killed, only to find out it was really fellow Resister Margo, and the two siblings take off to find their parents.Whit is also looking for Celia, his lost love, who appears to him from propaganda bill boards and gets him in trouble from time to time. The two seek temporary refuge in the [...]
This wasn't terrible, but really wasn't good either. As a bad guy, it reaches a point where if you have the heroes in your clutches so many times and still haven't managed to get rid of them, it's time to give up as you are obviously not made to be a villain. Both books have the same plot: the kids get captured, they escape through some miraculous event, get captured again, and escape again. This happened in both books and the villain has held enough public executions that end up with them escap [...]
Stattd [...]
This is the second book in James Patterson's series “The Witch and Wizard.” This book is a very fast paced read for everybody to enjoy. Wisty is a fiery witch, who survives torture at the hands of the New Order. Whit, an athletic and strong wizard, searches for his former girlfriend, Celia, who was killed by the New Order and now lives in an alternate dimension of reality where the dead exist as Half Lights. The story is about Whit and Whisty Allgood, who are in a constant life and death bat [...]
The Gift (Witch and Wizard) by James Patterson was read by my sister. They had a rule of none of these "Kinds" of books at school. I didn't know why. If it is just a made up story. I found it interesting when I read the back cover. The government took everything away. I wanted to know why. What kind of criminal is that bad that they take away everything I mean, they are just minors. The Gift is about two magical wizards or as people might call them witches. It's about two brothers and sisters hav [...]
What the H happened?!?!?! — that was my reaction after hitting the epilogue of the book. This is an awesome read! But the question posed at the start of the book remained unanswered: what is Wisty’s gift that The One wants it so badly?reading this felt like jumping from to portal to freaking portal (like Whit & Wisty). i never know where the author will take me. some ride!i love love LOVE Wisty’s character! very defiant and strong and undeterred despite the unfortunate events that follo [...]
This is an awesome book that kept me interested at all times. It was also full of surprises. It always made me think something would happen but its completely different. One time I got surprised was when after the underground concert the Bionics drummer became Wisty new boyfriend out of the blue and then when he helped the New Order capture Whit and Wisty and then New Order chopped off the drummer's hand to torture Wisty and force her to hold the dead hands till she gave The One Who Is The One he [...]
I got this book from my sister over winter break, unfortunately I didn't realize it was the part of a trilogy, or that I was reading it out of order. This book start in the middle of a story were a group of outcast teenagers, some with powers some without, are fighting against the evil forces taking control. These 'evil forces' are controlling and constricting people to be the same, outlawing music, etc. (like every evil government tries to control their people). Although for some reason this sin [...]
